Find Your Voice! In this Beginner’s Singing course, you’ll work in a small group to explore how to make the best use of both your singing and speaking voice. How high or low can you sing without straining? What’s the secret to breath pressure and airflow? How do you stay in tune, keep your energy up, sing legato or staccato, remain clear, and create different vocal colours?
We’ll explore all of this over the course of eight weekly sessions. Under the guidance of vocal coach Sarah van Lieshout, you’ll discover your voice through playful vocal exercises, canons, and songs, gradually expanding its range in a healthy way. By the end of the course, you’ll feel far more confident using your own voice. Together with your fellow participants and your teacher, you’ll prepare for a short presentation, which you’ll perform on stage in the Griffioen theatre at the end of the course.
Sarah Marieke van Lieshout graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory and is a classically trained singer and vocal coach with a passion for lyrics, music, theatre, and groove. She thrives on making music with others, whether in professional choirs, pop bands, musical theatre companies, or through her work as a singing teacher and coach for children, teenagers, and adults. She also leads workshops, such as with Choir at Work, where singing and live music take centre stage.
She is currently developing her own musical theatre production, Kom goed thuis! (Get Home Safely!), in collaboration with pianist Bam Commijs. In addition, she performs with Consensus Vocalis under the direction of Béni Csillag and with the 1960s band The One and Only.
