About the show
After a successful tour, Jim van der Zee, winner of The Voice 2018, returns to the theatres with his show Starting The Engine, together with pianist Reinout Douma (known from the Arctic Orchestra, Jochem Myjer and Janne Schra) and his band. In Starting The Engine, Jim plays covers of the artists that inspire him, but he also performs his own work. He shares his love for soul, jazz, blues and folk with the audience and tells the story behind the songs of his musical heroes in an intimate setting. Starting the Engine is a new beginning. Jim shows more of himself. New music, new stories and a powerful show!

ABOUT jim van der zee
When Jim was six years old, he made a bet with schoolteacher Dick in elementary school. Because Jim already knew one thing for sure: he will become a musician. Inspired by his father, who played songs for him at his bedside in the evening, he started making music in his early childhood. He continued his studies at the conservatory, where he not only improved his guitar playing, but also learned to sing. There he developed his voice into the warm, unique sound we know from him.
In summer, Jim preferred to travel around Europe and America with a camper from his student days. Whether he was playing at a surf camp on the French Atlantic coast or on a sunny square in Barcelona: he managed to attract an audience everywhere. He slept in his camper and made ends meet with the coins that filled his guitar case during the day.
In 2018, Jim won The Voice. Already during the blind auditions he overwhelmed jury and audience with his sensitive, own interpretation of the song “Amar Pelos Dois”. After The Voice, Jim toured the Dutch festivals and built his own recording studio in the heart of Amsterdam to be able to write his own songs.
