The voice is an instrument we all carry with us. It is expressive and deeply personal. In this course, group singing and improvisation are combined under the guidance of vocal teacher Sarah van Lieshout. Vocal technique is covered to some extent, though less extensively than in the Basic Singing course.
Over the course of 15 weeks, you will sing in a group of up to 24 singers, working with two, three, and four part harmonies. Together with your fellow participants and the teacher, you will rehearse a variety of songs, which will be performed on stage at the end of the course in the Griffioen theatre!
Please note: this course is intended for singers who are able to hold their own melody while other vocal parts are being sung. You do not need to have formal vocal training, but you should be able to sing in tune. If you are unsure whether this course is right for you, Sarah recommends joining the Basic Singing course on Wednesdays.
About the teacher
Sarah Marieke van Lieshout graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory and is a classically trained singer and vocal coach with a passion for text, music, theater, and groove. She enjoys making music together, whether in professional choirs, pop bands, music theater companies, or in her work as a vocal teacher and coach for children, youth, and adults. Additionally, she gives workshops, such as those at Choir at Work, where singing and making live music are central.
Currently, Sarah Marieke is working on her own music theater piece, "Kom goed thuis!" together with pianist Bam Commijs. She sings with Consensus Vocalis under the direction of Béni Csillag and in the '60s band "The One and Only."
