NOT EVERYONE WITHOUT ME, NOT ‘I’ WITHOUT THE OTHER.

EXIT shows the meeting of four individuals who walk one collective path. In a big, impressive installation with a revolving wall and floating doors, they move in and through the space. They drive each other, walk, collide, climb, carry, balance and transform. They arrive and depart, meet and leave, appear and disappear. As human beings, we are always moving forward. But what if you’re always ‘on the road’? And what about the tension between the individual and the group? In their quest for independence, they need each other more than ever. They balance each other, but also bring each other out of balance. A flirt with risk…

EXIT is an exciting, impressive and physical circus and dance performance where movement, partner acrobatics and balance board merge. Choreographer Piet Van Dycke invites four circus artists, each specialized in a different discipline (bascule, straps, trapeze and acro dance). The theme also applies here: four individual disciplines in one collective language.

Reviews

NRC

★★★★☆

'The four dancers make full use of this whirlwind in every possible way: to be hoisted up and jump onto the adjacent roof, to walk over it and balance on it, like a surfboard high in the air. Solo, as a pair, and eventually all four of them perform stunning, seemingly dangerous acrobatic feats.' Ron Rijghard

DE VOLKSKRANT

★★★★☆

'During this precarious and sometimes dangerous exercise in balance, the four circus acrobats, specializing in seesaw, partner acrobatics, and balance board, also find time for winks towards the audience. The work of the young Piet Van Dycke stands out for its organic mix of lightness and gravity.' Annette Embrechts

DE THEATERKRANT

'The beauty of Exit is that choreographer-director Piet Van Dycke and his performers skillfully know how to dose and time. The pace remains high, the rhythm stays tight because they don't overwork movement patterns but introduce fresh variations with playful flair and nonchalance. Many a child can be heard saying after the performance: 'I want to be able to do that in the future.'
