Besides our own theater, film, and course programme, VU Griffioen is an excellent location for cultural activities, performances, film screenings, and more.

Theatre Halls
Theatre 2 - 300 seats
This hall serves multiple times a week as a theatre venue for professional stage productions. It's the perfect choice for larger events such as concerts, dance and theatre performances, conferences, and congresses. The hall seats approximately 300 guests, offering room for a large audience while still feeling intimate. This creates a great setting where the audience and speaker or performer can easily connect.

Theatre 5 - 120 seats
Theatre 5 is a flexible space thanks to its retractable seating, accommodating 120 guests. A hall with plenty of privacy, suitable for lectures, presentations, simple cultural activities, and smaller events. A warm atmosphere combined with a practical layout makes this space suitable for both business and private gatherings.

The halls are available from the afternoon onwards. It is not possible to hire a theatre hall in the morning. More information about the available technical equipment in the theatre halls can be found here.

Cinema halls
We rent out four cinema halls with professional cinema screens and, of course, cinema-quality sound. Ideal for film festivals, film premieres, and film-related events. We're also happy to collaborate with (student) associations and other organisations to organise special screenings complete with an introduction and/or post-screening discussion.
Zalen
All halls are equipped with:
- Barco 2K laserprojectors, Dolby IMS3000-servers and 7.1 sound
- Two wireless microphones and stage spotlights
Theatre 4 - 124 seats
Theatre 6 - 72 seats
Theatre 8 - 124 seats
Theatre 9 - 104 seats
The halls are available from the afternoon onwards. It is not possible to hire a cinema hall in the morning.

Rates
VU Griffioen is part of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Partly because of this, our rental rates are very attractive compared to many other venues, keeping your event affordable. We also offer discounted rates for social/cultural organisations, as well as an internal discount rate for VU staff and VU student associations.

Easy to reach
VU Griffioen is a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Zuid train, metro, and bus station. From Schiphol Airport, you can reach VU Griffioen within half an hour.
Our location is also very easy to reach by car. Set your navigation address to: Van der Boechorststraat 5a, 1081 BT Amsterdam. Take exit S108 (VUmc) from the A10 and follow the signs for P3 VU Campus.
Parking
Parking garage P3 is a 3-level garage beneath the NU building with space for 600 cars and 24 charging spots for electric vehicles. The pedestrian exits lead to De Boelelaan and VU Campusplein. More information about parking locations and parking rates can be found via these links.
Please note: Trucks and vans belonging to production crews cannot park in the P3 garage beneath the NU building; instead, they must park in the area on the south side of the NU building. Please call Technical Services (020 - 5981031) before parking. Passenger cars belonging to production crews and performers can park in the P3 garage.
Wheelchair Accessible
VU Griffioen beschikt over rolstoelvriendelijke facaliteiten. Zo hebben de theaterzalen een vlak podium waardoor deze voor iedereen toegankelijk zijn.
Catering
We work closely with partners such as Bar Boele for catering. If you'd like to organise drinks at Bar Boele only, please email reserveringen@barboele.nl.
